Shatkora Dal is a traditional dish in Sylhet division of Bangladesh. It’s a vegetarian dish and healthy dish. In this dish I used red lentil ( Mosurer Dal) with Sylhet division’s famous Satkora .  Shatkora is not only in Sylhet, now it’s become favorite food dish of all over Bangladesh.   


•             Red Lentil-01cup

•             Shatkora-1/2pcs

•             Slice Onion-30g.

•             Ginger paste- 5g.

•             Garlic paste -5

•             Garlic slice – 10g.

•             Turmeric powder- 05g.

•             Cumin Powder 5g.

•             Coriander powder -5g.

•             Green chili -03 pcs

•             Salt– 01 tbsp

•             Cooking oil 01 Tbsp

For the  Foron / Bagar

  • Slice onion -20g.
  • Slice garlic- 10g.
  • Cumin seed — pinch
  • Dry red chili – 02 pcs
  • Bay Leaf – 01pcs
  • Oil—02 tbsp


I.             Wash the lentil and shocke in water for about 01 hours then drain the water from lentil.

II.            Marinate the lentil with sliced onion, garlic paste, ginger paste, Turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt and green chili.

III.           Cut the shatkora by wedges and takeout skin part .

IV.          In a deep pan assemble 02 cup of water and dal then bring it boiling point. Make heat low and wait for about 10 minutes or until lentil become soft.

V.            Use a whisker and mixed properly for making paste. Add 02 cup of hot water and Shatkora skin, cook more 05 minutes.

VI.          On the other side, make a pan medium high heat add the dry red chili, bay leaf, cumin seeds on the pan and let them splatter. Put oil on the pan then add shredded onion & slice garlic stir well and wait for onion become brown colour.

VII.Return           brown onion and others all ingredient  to the pan where lentil is waiting. Cover the pan with a lid for about 2-3 minutes.

VIII.        Enjoy the Shatkora Dal with any rice dish or roti.
